Borsch

I've pick this one up in Bulgaria. Presuming I had a tomato soup, the taste was pretty unusual and too my great surprise it was a beetroot soup. One of the only things I didn't like at all, probably due to childhood traumatisms with vinegar soaked beetroots.

Like many great ancestral dishes there's nothing like the original Borsch. When it's made by a local grandmother it's always the real stuff and if it's done by you or me it'll never be.

Borsch is a typical Ukrainian winter soup, the Russians made it their own and for our benifit spread it wherever they went. Being the dish of the commoners, meat was often a luxurious ingredient, if you like to put some meat in the brew you're more then welcome to do so, in some regions they even used to add mushrooms as a meat surrogate. However, I'll try to bring you a poor man's pre-Columbian Borsch, without meat, tomatoes and potatoes. With modern blending technology nevertheless.

What you need

  • A dozen of beetroots (about 1kg)

  • Vegetable oil

  • 2 onions

  • 2 carrots

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • 1 parsley root

  • 1 green cabbage

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Salt & Pepper

  • 2 litters of water

  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

  • Some sour cream and dill

What you need to do

  • If you don't have pre-peeled beetroots start by boiling and skinning them. You might want to put on gloves or rub some oil on your hands to prevent them from turning purple.

  • Chop all the vegetables up, never mind the way you cut them up for we'll pass everything through a blender at the end.

  • Fry the chopped onions, carrots, parsley root and garlic on a medium heat until the onion start to colour, then add the chopped cabbage, beetroots and bay leaves.

  • Season with salt and pepper and let it simmer for 5 minutes on a low fire while you stir the mixture from time to time.

  • Add the water, vinegar and sugar. Let it come to a boil and put it on a low fire for 15minutes.

  • Season to taste, take the bay leaves out and pass the lot through a blender to obtain a smooth creamy mixture.

  • Maybe you'll have a bit too much Borsch, but that's no problem. You can freeze some for later on and it's such a nice dish that it'll be gone before you notice.

  • To serve reheat gently the borsch, then top each bowl with a tablespoon of sour cream and sprinkle some dill on top.

* According to an old rule, borsch should be so thick that a wooden spoon stays upright when stuck into the pot.

The Man Who Tapped the Secrets of the Universe

During vivid spiritual experiences, Russell Russell (1871-1963) had seen everything in the universe, from the atom to outer space. Russell not only portrayed his visions in paintings, he also learned science. He was so far ahead that in 1926 he predicted tritium, deuterium, neptunium, plutonium and other elements.

Why there are Cyclops in South Africa

Unlike most Zulus believe, cyclop lambs are not an act of bestiality, nor an act of a god.

According to InfoVets the most common cause for Cyclop Lambs is when a pregnant ewe consumes false hellebore, skunk cabbage (Veratrum californicum).

Have you own power station, Scooter included.

After 10 years of research and development, Josef Zeitler from Speinshart in Germany, the owner of Independent Energy Systems (INENSY), has developed the first Hydrogen filled 2 stroke-engine scooter with technical approval from the German TÜV.

AQWON's top speed is about 50 km/h (31mph), the power is 2,6 kWh and the weight is minimal. This is the same as a petrol/oil 2 stroke scooter.

The whole system works on solar power and water to produce hydrogen for your own use and there is no extra maintenance service required.

Everything is included in the price of 5.600Euro, which is cheap for a hydrogen powered zero-emission-scooter.

& no wonder it ain't on my radio?

Listen to the web or read all about it (The Japan Times, BBC).

Nihon Break Kogyo's song splashed onto one of the Japan's most influential music charts. It is the first time a "shaka", or corporate anthem, has made the charts.

Brought you by Nihon Break Kogyo.

The lyrics have an enormous impact. Maybe this song is more radical and aggressive than songs created by mediocre punk rock bands.

Translation:
Break alright Break alright Now we're ready for your town
Dismantle away Dismantle away The just one rule we'll obey
Conclusion of the duration is comin'up, Concrete is losin' its unity
There are the delayers of buildin' our peaceful days Break'em out!
NIHON BREAK KOGYO Smashin' steel ball Da Da Da
NIHON BU-RE-I-KU KOGYO Chemical anchor bolt driven to beat&wave the hardest rock!!
Any houses! Any bridges! And any towers can't stop us in any way!

Strangers in Paradise

Katchoo
Created by Terry Moore.

I don't know why but I do
Dream of you.
Losing you
I dream of you.
I don't know why but I do
Think of you.
Though we're through
I think of you.

Is it the same way for you?
Doesn't hi and goodbye sound so cruel?
How can I take my heart from you?
Even even though I'm losing you,
I still dream of you.
I dream of you.

I don't know why but you still
Give me chills.
Through your faults and pills
You still give me chills.
Is it the same way for you?
Doesn't hi and goodbye sound so cruel?
How can I take my heart from you?
When even though I'm losing you
I still dream of you.
I dream of you.
